There has never been a technology quite so imagined as robotics. For nearly a century, science fiction has constructed complex and detailed future worlds in which robotics and automation technologies are both prominent and ordinary. Science fiction has explored future robotics cultures, built utopian and dystopian robotic societies, and helped us to better understand the very essence of what makes us "human". Fictional speculation of the future possibilities is intellectually stimulating. Literary explorations of the soul, enabled by comparison with soulless machines is equally satisfying. But at the end of the day, we are faced with the ultimate reality that these futuristic visions are most likely wrong and today's robotics technologies are almost completely untapped as relevant commercial products. Robotics is doing very little of value in our world today.

Disruptive Robotics will bring transformative change to the world in the form of practical, scalable robotics products that address the real, unmet needs of ordinary human beings. Our focus is on the daily lives of regular people, the problems that they struggle with, and the enormous promise of robotics technologies to extend human cognitive and physical capabilities. Helping people to do more and do it better offers a new strategy for increasing both economic and social productivity. Disruptive will deliver productivity by intersecting robotics with our culture's foundational markets: healthcare, energy, education, transportation; defining robotics approaches that unleash transformational change in these markets; and, building visionary companies that bring transformative products and services to those markets... all in ways that Improve the Human Condition.
